Board of Directors

Chip Bottone, Chairman

Mr. Bottone joined FuelCell Energy in February 2010 as Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer and was promoted to President and CEO in February 2011. Prior to joining FuelCell Energy, Mr. Bottone was President of the Energy Systems business at Ingersoll Rand Company. Mr. Bottone's focus is to accelerate revenue growth and profitability by capitalizing on heightened demand by the world's industrialized and emerging nations for clean and renewable energy. He is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to further expand the Company's market opportunities and growth potential. Mr. Bottone's qualifications include 25 years of experience at Ingersoll Rand Company, a diversified global industrial concern. Mr. Bottone received an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1983, and received a Certificate of Professional Development from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2004. Mr. Bottone has extensive experience in global commercialization activities that deliver profitable growth.

Robert A. Stokes, President and Chief Executive Officer

David C. Carroll

Mr. Carroll is President of the Gas Technology Institute. He joined GTI in 2001 as Vice President of Business Development. Previously, he was Director of Business Development at Praxair, Inc., and also worked with Liquid Carbonic Industries, a subsidiary of Chicago Bridge & Iron. He earned a MBA from Lehigh University and a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Haresh Kamath

Haresh Kamath is Program Manager for Energy Storage at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), managing the Institute's research into the development, assessment, and application of energy storage technologies for grid storage applications. He is also a Strategic Program Manager in EPRI's Technology Innovation Program, where he manages programs investigating advanced materials technologies for power delivery applications, and advanced energy storage technologies. Kamath joined EPRI PEAC in 2002 as a project engineer in energy storage and distributed generation. His responsibilities grew to include management of the energy technologies group, encompassing EPRI Solutions efforts in energy storage, distributed generation, energy efficiency, and electric transportation. He was an author for the DOE-EPRI Handbook of Energy Storage and serves on the board of directors of the Electricity Storage Association. Before joining EPRI, Kamath worked at Lockheed Martin Space Systems as a product engineer responsible for spacecraft batteries. He also served as an applications engineering and business development manager at a startup energy storage company. Kamath received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemical engineering from Stanford University.

Anthony Leo

Anthony (Tony) Leo, Vice President Applications and OEM Engineering, joined FuelCell Energy (then named Energy Research Corporation) in 1978 to work on advanced electrochemical technologies for energy storage and generation. He has held numerous positions in the company involved in managing advanced research and development of rechargeable batteries and fuel cells. When FCE began to commercialize the DFC technology, Mr. Leo managed the first large-scale demonstration of the technology in Santa Clara, California. He established the company's first Product Engineering group, and directed the transition of the company from reliance on outside engineering contractors to the development of a fully capable engineering department. Mr. Leo also managed the creation of FCE's Service and Project Management organizations during the company's evolution from an R&D organization to a product company. He is now overseeing another new department in the company, focused on Application Engineering and Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) support. Mr. Leo holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is well known throughout the battery and fuel cell industry, has authored numerous papers, contributed to technical books, and been awarded two US Patents.

Jack Lewnard

John "Jack" Lewnard joined Gas Technology Institute (GTI) in July 2007 as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He leads GTI’s Office of Technology and Innovation, guiding the development and implementation of GTI's long-term technical strategy and vision, and ensuring that GTI's activities are conducted in a manner consistent with the practice of "good science". Lewnard will also provide overall direction to the R&D organization and identify new energy technologies, issues, and opportunities. Lewnard is an accomplished engineer, with eight patents and 50 technical publications and presentations. He came to GTI from GreenFuel Technologies, Inc. where he served as Vice President, Process Development. Prior to that, he was an R&D Manager for Millipore Corporation and he also spent 17 years at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. Lewnard earned a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkley.

Anil V. Virkar

Dr. Virkar is Professor and Chair of the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Utah, co-founder and Vice President of Materials and Systems Research, Inc. (MSRI). He also was a founder of Ceramatec, Inc. He is Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, and a member of The Electrochemical Society and the American Society for Metals. He is an author or co-author of over 180 research articles, and an inventor or co-inventor on more than 35 patents. Many of his articles and patents are on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology. He has done extensive research on SOFCs, and is internationally recognized for his work in this area. He received his PhD from Northwestern University in Materials Science.

Rajiv K. Kulkarni

(Non-voting Member) Dr. Kulkarni is the Senior Licensing Manager at the University of Utah, Technology Transfer Office.
